Scaffolding Association Australia Signs MoU with IPAF to Strengthen Safety and Training in Mast Climber Industry
The Scaffolding Association Australia (SAA) is pleased to announce that we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), a global authority dedicated to promoting the safe and effective use of powered access equipment worldwide.
IPAF, headquartered in the UK, is internationally recognised for its leadership in operator training, technical guidance, safety campaigns, and the development of best-practice standards for powered access equipment. Through its extensive global network, IPAF supports members across multiple countries with resources that improve safety, training, and industry innovation.
What This MoU Means for Australia
This partnership marks a significant step forward for the mast climber sector in Australia. By joining forces with IPAF, we are ensuring that global best practices in powered access safety, operator training, and technical standards are available to our members and the broader construction industry.
As part of this agreement:
IPAF will join the SAA’s Mast Climber Subcommittee, bringing international expertise to our discussions and initiatives.
Both organisations will share resources, safety materials, and technical guidance to improve standards and outcomes for mast climber operations in Australia.
We will explore collaborative safety campaigns, training improvements, and industry education initiatives that benefit all workers at height.
A Message from SAA Chair & Managing Director, Rob Thiess:
“This MoU reflects our commitment to raising the bar for mast climber safety and training in Australia. Partnering with IPAF allows us to bring global expertise to our local industry, ensuring that we’re not only meeting current safety standards but leading the way in improving them. Together, we will drive better education, awareness, and compliance to keep workers safe and projects efficient.”
Peter Douglas, CEO and Managing Director of IPAF, says:
“This partnership strengthens our global commitment to safer working at height by extending our support and resources to the mast climber industry in Australia. Collaborating with the Scaffolding Association of Australia will help ensure that safety and training standards remain at the forefront as MCWP usage grows in the region.”
