Launching the SAA Industry Committees – A New Chapter for Australia’s Scaffolding Industry
The Scaffolding Association Australia is excited to announce the upcoming launch of our Industry Committees, a major step forward in strengthening the support, representation and capability of our industry.
Applications will open soon for SAA members & Partners to join national committees across the following specialist areas:
- Commercial Scaffolding
- Industrial Scaffolding
- Residential Scaffolding
- Technical & Engineering
- Scaffold Safety
- Aluminium Scaffolding
- Scaffolding Training
- Mast Climbers
- Swing Stages
These committees will bring together people who work in these sectors every day. They know the challenges, they see the gaps and they understand what needs improving. For the first time, we will have groups focused purely on advancing the areas of the industry they specialise in. Their insight will help shape guidance that is practical, relevant and aligned with real industry needs.
An Exciting Evolution for the SAA
Since launching the SAA, we have worked hard to build national momentum. The progress so far has been incredible. Our safety campaigns have reached sites across the country, our insurance, legal and HR support has become a major drawcard for members, and the level of engagement across the industry continues to grow. Many members, partners and even international associations have commented on how far we have come in such a short period of time.
As we have grown, we have learned and adapted. What worked in the early stages helped us get moving, but the next phase needs a more focused structure. Industry Committees give us that focus.
They allow volunteers to contribute in the areas they know best, making their time and experience far more impactful. Instead of providing input across every part of the industry, members will now be able to focus their contributions where their expertise is strongest. Committee members will be directly involved in shaping the future of their specific field, whether that is engineering, safety, mast climbers, residential scaffolding or other sectors.
Why This Matters for the Industry
Strong industry bodies are built on clear vision, engaged members and guidance that reflects what people see on the ground. They are also strengthened by volunteers who bring real experience into the conversation.
The new committees will help deliver this. They will guide the development of industry resources that lift standards, address long-standing gaps and give much needed clarity to scaffolders, contractors, regulators and the broader construction industry.
This work supports our mission:
“To represent, enhance and promote the scaffold industry in Australia.”
Learning From Global Leaders While Staying True to Australia
We’re also in a unique position. Unlike many industry bodies starting from scratch, we have strong relationships with two long-established international bodies:
- SARNZ (Scaffolding, Access & Rigging New Zealand)
- NASC (National Access & Scaffolding Confederation, UK)
These associations have decades of experience, mature committee structures and a history of guiding their industries through major change. We have a rare opportunity to learn from them: what works, what doesn’t and how a strong committee system can elevate an entire sector.
But at the same time, we’re building something uniquely Australian. Our industry has its own challenges, our own regulatory landscape, and our own culture. The goal isn’t to copy others but to learn from them and then develop what suits our country best. The Industry Committees will be a key part of making that happen.
A Chance for Every Member to Get Involved
Applications for national Industry Committee positions will open in early 2026, and every SAA member is welcome to apply. If you’re passionate about improving our industry and want to make a real contribution in the area you specialise in, we’d love you to put your hand up.
This is your chance to help shape national guidance, influence the direction of the industry and be part of history as we build the future of scaffolding in Australia.
A Strong Future Ahead
Seeing the SAA evolve into this next phase is something we are incredibly proud of. The support from members has been outstanding, and the momentum we are building is unlike anything the scaffolding industry in Australia has seen before. We have already achieved so much together. Now imagine what can be achieved with dedicated committees driving improvement in every key area of the industry.
This is an exciting turning point. More information about applications, committee roles and timelines will be shared in early 2026.
For now, thank you for your continued support, your belief in what we’re building and your commitment to lifting the standard of our industry.
The future of scaffolding in Australia is bright, and we’re only just getting started.
