Mawson Lakes Hung Scaffold
The Grove Scaff project at the high-security site in Mawson Lakes aimed to establish roof capacity and create secure access to windows and matrix panelling. This project involved navigating significant challenges due to the restricted access inherent to the site’s security measures. The goal was to ensure the safety and functionality of scaffolding while adhering to the strict requirements set by structural and scaffold engineers, as well as gaining the necessary approvals from relevant authorities.
Challenges
- Establishing roof capacity and designing suitable access to windows and matrix panelling at a secure site.
- Restricted access due to high security at the location.
- Six months of negotiations to obtain sign-offs from structural and scaffold engineers.
- Navigating extensive clearance procedures.
- Gaining approval from Parafield Airport for the crane lift.
Outcomes
- Successful clearance and approval obtained, allowing the team to begin work.
- Build completed in five days.
- Construction included:
- A stair bay for roof access.
- A loading bay for landing crane equipment.
- A 13-metre walkway connecting the stair access bay and the crane loading bay.
- Seven cantilevered bays over a void.
- Nine vertical metres of hung scaffolding for window access above the entry foyer.
- A catch platform was erected in the reception area for staff protection under the hung scaffolding.
- Sufficient clearance maintained for access to doors, security lockers, and the reception desk.
- Staff continued working throughout the build and dismantle process without interruption.
The Grove Scaff team successfully navigated significant security and logistical challenges to complete a complex scaffold build within a restricted environment. By maintaining clearances and ensuring safety protocols, the team enabled uninterrupted work for site staff, achieving both project objectives and client satisfaction within the anticipated timeline.
